Running a business means watching a hundred things at once. Positive Pay watches one of your most important—your accounts. It’s a fraud prevention tool that helps identify unauthorized checks and ACH activity before items are processed. More visibility, more control, one less thing on your mind, without adding another task to your day. You must submit exception decisions by the applicable daily cutoff time. Your selected default decision will apply to items not reviewed before the cutoff.

How Positive Pay helps prevent check and ACH fraud.

  • Help identify unauthorized, altered, counterfeit, or unexpected payments before they clear

  • Review exceptions online and decide, with full information, whether to pay or return

  • Strengthen internal controls and spend less time chasing down suspicious activity

  • Reconcile faster by comparing what’s presented against what you’ve authorized

  • Choose the level of protection that matches how your business moves money

Reverse Check Positive Pay and Reverse ACH Positive Pay

Gain greater visibility into what's clearing your account. Upload your issued check file, or enter check details yourself—number, date, payee, amount. When a check comes in that doesn't match, we flag it as an exception, so you can review it before it's paid, not after.

Set the rules and let routine electronic payments run on their own. Anything outside those rules gets flagged as an exception, so you can decide whether to pay or return it—saving time on the payments you trust and giving you the final word on the ones you don't.

Get big-business protection even if your check or ACH volume is low. Every check or ACH item that comes through creates an exception for your review before processing, subject to your selected default decision and daily cutoff time. You get the same level of protection larger businesses rely on, no matter what your size.

Positive Pay FAQs

Positive Pay is a fraud prevention service that helps identify unauthorized, altered, counterfeit, or unexpected check and ACH activity before it clears your account. It may reduce the risk of certain payment fraud losses, but it does not guarantee prevention of all fraud and does not replace your responsibility to review account activity and promptly report unauthorized transactions.

Instead of catching fraud after the fact, when your money's already gone, Positive Pay identifies transactions that do not match established criteria and presents them for review before a payment decision is made. You review the exception and decide whether to approve or return it.

Check Positive Pay compares checks presented for payment against the checks you've issued; you upload your issued check file or enter the details yourself. ACH Positive Pay works similarly for electronic transactions: you preview and approve incoming ACH items or set authorization rules based on criteria you define, such as transaction type, amount, and payee, so routine payments move on their own.

It's flagged as an exception. If you review it before the daily cutoff, you decide whether to pay or return it. If you don't review it in time, your pre-selected default decision will apply automatically.

Yes. Reverse Check Positive Pay and Reverse ACH Positive Pay are built for exactly this.  Every check or ACH item is presented for review, regardless of your transaction volume.

All Positive Pay decisions need to be made by the daily cutoff time. If you don't decide in time, your chosen default decision—pay or return—will automatically apply.

It depends on your check and ACH volume and how much control you want over routine transactions. Your business banking relationship manager or a business banking support specialist can walk through your options and help you choose the right fit. Or call 866.755.0628 for assistance.

Positive Pay is $40 per month and includes all versions outlined above.

Membership eligibility required. Positive Pay is available for eligible business deposit accounts and requires enrollment and acceptance of the applicable Positive Pay Agreement. Fees, cutoff times, account eligibility requirements, and other terms may apply. Positive Pay does not prevent or detect all unauthorized or fraudulent transactions. See the Business Fee Schedule and Positive Pay Agreement for complete terms and conditions.
