I can’t believe I’m back in my office in Burbank after working from home for so many months. After months of “social isolation”— it feels good to do something slightly normal!
Of course, a great many more (and more important) things have changed over the last few months, many drastically. One thing I am distressed to say has NOT changed is the ugliness of racism that tears at our nation. Sadly, our society was recently reminded of this again, and I want to emphasize in no uncertain terms: Your Credit Union is a diverse family, and we genuinely take pride in this.
We are elevated and enriched by the diversity of others. This ENHANCES who we are, who we want to be, and who we strive to represent. Everyone should feel loved, included and respected, and I cannot emphasize that word RESPECT enough. I know we can never know what it’s like to be someone else, but learning from and about others is one of life’s great joys and should be embraced.
Creating a more just, empathetic and respectful society is easier said than done, and I am reminded that we have a big task ahead. To this end, the Credit Union has created a formal “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” group in our organization. This will help ensure that we continue to take an active role in discussions and actions that remove social injustice from our communities.
Above all, know that we are with all our members and communities at every step, in any way we can.
Stay healthy and safe.
